Karbonn announces “K9 Smart” with support for 21 Indian languages

To tap the first time users, domestic handset- maker, Karbonn has brought something very modest, “Karbonn K9 Smart”. Priced at Rs 3990 only, the handset is available at all the retail stores. The USP of the phone is its compatibility with 21 Indian languages, targeting the non- English speaking audiences, with comfort of using the phone in their first language.

For specifications, the dual SIM phone features 5 inch FWVGA display of resolution (480x854p). The innards include 1.2 GHz quad core processor bundled with 512 MB of RAM. Memory wise, it has an on board storage capacity up to 8GB with an additional 32GB via Micro SD card. Talking about the software, it runs on android 4.4. kitkat and is backed up by a 2300mAh battery. Connectivity options included are 3G Support, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS, Wi fi, Bluetooth and Micro USB. The camera department houses a 3.2 primary camera and 1.3 MP secondary camera.

The handset comes pre-loaded with apps like cricbuzz, to enjoy the scores, commentary and live updates in 6 different languages and Newshunt, which will offer news and magazines in 11 Indian languages. The highlight of the phone is its support for 21 Indian languages, out of which 12 are at the system level, phone/ contacts access in 11 Indian languages. Social and utility apps like Google Maps, Facebook, You Tube and Whats app can also be accessed in different languages with an option to choose from 21 different Indian languages for typing input.

With the growing usage of local language content on the mobile phones, vernacularizing the smartphone ecosystem has become the need of the hour and with K9 Smart, the company aims to diffuse the language barrier by offering Indian users a reasonable smartphone, easily accessible in their native language.
